JHALIL YOUNGER

JHALIL YOUNGER

ABOUT

Jhalil Younger is a theatre artist hailing all the way from the distant land of Wilmington, Delaware. Despite not getting involved with the performing arts until he’d made his way well into high school, Younger was attracted to the energy produced from being in front of an audience from a young age. Before he was singing and dancing in Grease or pantomiming his way through Once Upon a Mattress, he was participating in spelling bees, competing in speech contests, and hamming it up in small skits put on at a local summer camp and after school program. Little did he know that these humble beginnings of putting himself on display for his peers were the precursors to the life of performance he’s grown so fond of.

A middle child amongst a small army of siblings, Jhalil has years of experience playing both an older and younger brother and has the mediating skills to prove it. For his time spent living in the middle, this young actor has walked away with a level head, a calm and endearing intensity, and an unmatched appreciation for the dichotomy of balancing a youthful spirit with an aged wisdom. After making his way through high school theatre, Younger took these skills with him and found himself at Desales University where he devoted himself to studying Theatre under the Acting and Directing  concentration. After throwing himself head first into his studies, Jhalil found his artistic process brimming with the teachings from the schools of Konstantin Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, and Sanford Meisner. With these techniques under his belt, Younger has cultivated a trained mind with a keen eye for analysis and an attention to detail that has opened him up to the possibilities latent in any text. Not one to train his mind without also expanding his physical vocabulary and sharpening his vocal instrument, here is an actor that has also made himself familiar with Kristin Linklater’s teachings on freeing the natural speaking voice as well as the physical teachings of Rudolf Laban. If you find yourself looking for an artists that is dedicated not only to the work necessary to improving his craft but also to the work of creating a world that can feel like a home to all people, you need look no further than Jhalil Younger.
